If you are a regular reader of my Empowerment Process please read the Section II version of this poem first; then read this version.
SolitudeIf I laugh the world laughs with me;
Weep, and I weep alone;
For the sad old earth must borrow its mirth,
But has trouble enough of it’s own.
If I sing, the hills will answer;
Sigh, it is lost in the air;
The echoes bound to a joyful sound,
But shrink from voicing care.
If I rejoice, folks will seek me;
Grieve, and they turn and go;
They want full measure of all my pleasure,
But they do not need my woe.
If I am glad, my friends are many;
If I'm sad, I'll lose them all--
There are none to decline my nectared wine,
But alone I must drink life's gall.
If I feast, my halls are crowded;
Fast, and the world goes by.
If I succeed and give, it helps me live,
But no one can help me die.
There is room in the halls of pleasure
For a large and lordly train,
But one by one we must all file on
Through the narrow isles of pain.

Mel,
ReplyDeleteMy dear friend :D!
I absolutely loved the poem: it was slightly different from the one in section II (the first was in the second person, this one is in the first person; but even the structure is different, isn't it?).
It is so true: when we are well people feel drawn to you; when you are down people walk away (which is quite silly if you ask me...I like to be there when people need me; specially when they are down...it is our duty as humans to be somebody's angel, right?).
"How do you feel when you are around happy, positive people?" - I am a happy person by nature, so when I am around happy people I make them even more happy, which in turn makes me happier :).
"How do you feel when you are around unhappy, negative people?" - I try to make them happy, make them laugh; but if they are cronically unhappy (by choice) and negative I confess I don't have the patience to let them dry my energies *nodding*.
"How will you act when you are around the people you like?" - the same as I do: happily and laughing :). When I love somebody I love him/her, and that's that (often I love too much, and subject myself to backstabbing, but oh well...there must be a reason for it, right?).
Oh my...I had come to wish you Happy New Year; but I couldn't resist...I just had to participate in this ;)!!!
I wish you and your family a Happy 2008!!!! May the new year be full of success, and may more people be ready for it :D!!!
Cheers
Colin,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tag and the comment.
Max,
ReplyDeleteRemember, you can't "make" someone happy. You can convince someone to choose happiness, which is what I believe you do.
If someone is chronically unhappy, yes, by choice, then there comes a time when you must move on.
YOU definitely "get it!"
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
