A SmileLet others cheer the winning woman,
There's I hold worthwhile;
'Tis she who does the best she can,
Then loses with a smile;
Beaten she is, but not to stay
Down with the rank and file;
That woman will win some other day,
Who loses with a smile.

I strongly suggest that you write down your immediate reaction, after passionately reading this poem.
- Think back to when you tried your hardest to win but didn't and were a sore loser.
- List those times.
- When did you graciously accept defeat?
- List those occasions.
- Try and recall how you felt after each.

smile cheer winning, loses with a smile rank and file
Hi Mel!
ReplyDeleteI read this poem, and the first thing that came to mind was: I don't lose with a smile, cause I hardly lose (it all depends on what one considers losing...sometimes, it may seem like I'm losing but in the end: I win! I am that patient...)!
However it is true, one should lose with a smile - it would be an indicator that we already have a plan for next time, and thus we shall win next time :)!
I lost twice with my brother, and accepted it graciously:
1. at track race - he's much better than I am. In fact, I hate running! I didn't feel anything, cause I really detest running; I was just indulging my bros.
2. monopoly - he cheated. But hey, he's my baby brother..so I let him be (but deep down I wanted to kill him)!
I lost in a handball match at school:
1.I played well, and because the captain of the team didn't accept my strategy, we lost 31-1! I didn't accept it too well, there was a brawl over it (I was 10 years old lol)!
And that was it, cause after this match I always made sure I'd win in public lol! I only allow my brother win me :).
Cheers!
Max,
ReplyDeleteWow, I think this is the first time that the length of the comment exceeded the length of the post. Thank you for sharing.
We can't win them all and I learned this a long, long time ago. I will also admit that there have been times I wasn't a very good loser either. Great post on how to approach losing. Have a great day. :)
