You will find a consistency and a focus in all of my content that can change your attitude which can fuel a positive change in your life, if you want it to. If you are happy with your attitude and your life and see no reason for changing, then you either already have a PMA (Positive Mental Attitude), or you are a victim and want to hold onto your misery. These postings will then serve to fortify the person with PMA, or, hopefully, convince the "victim" that there is a better way. This site will contain essays, poems, stories, humor and links, all with the same goal: The pursuit, capture, care and feeding of a Positive Mental Attitude. I have had readers tell me that they have spent hours on my site and feel great about themselves both during and after. I log onto my own site frequently to help fuel my attitude; I hope you will as well.

Are You Prepared For Success? (Section II - Installment #22 "Can-do” – Male & Female versions)

(If this is your first time on this site, you may want to begin with "Are You Prepared For Success?" [Introduction])

"Can-do"

Can you dream with all the senses that are you?
Can you smell the sweet aroma of desire?
Can you say the words that are screaming to come through?
Can you touch the passions burning like a fire?
Can you imagine the state of "Can-do?"

Can you feel all the colors that surround you?
Can you hear the wind as you begin to soar?
Can you reach for the sky and actually break through?
Can you yell? Can you shout? Can you roar?
Can you see the state of "Can-do?"

Can you unlock the powers that are within you?
Can you eliminate the doubt and know you will achieve?
Can you commit to rise each time set-backs befall you?
Can you look within and know that you believe?
Can you feel the state of "Can-do?"

Can you take control of this life that is you?
Can you decide what to do and when?
Can you be the person that you were meant to?
Can you declare that you'll never quit again?
Can you enter the state of "Can-do?"

(An Original Poem by Mel Kaye)

I strongly suggest that you write down your immediate reaction, after passionately reading this poem.
  • Imagine...what would you do if you had no barriers (external or internal), however, stay within the realm of physical reality, the law and within your own moral and ethical value system?

The 10 Things in Life that You Control

I found the following article to be very clear, concise and useful.

The 10 Things in Life that You Control
by Jim M. Allen

There are just a few aspects of life that we can truly control, and it's useful to know just what those areas are. If you don't know, you'll spend a lot of time blaming others for your own failings. Try and exert too much control in areas you shouldn't and the universe will create some interesting ways to remind of your place.

So be prepared an learn the 10 things in life that you DO control:

1. What you do

Your actions are yours alone. You choose to make them or not make them and you are responsible for the effects of those actions.

2. What you say

Likewise, the words you speak (or write) are also consciously chosen. Like actions, they have an impact on your life and the lives of those you contact.

3. What you think

Yes, there are some subconscious thoughts that you can't control. But the things that you really think about, your beliefs, your ideals, etc. are concepts you have chosen to accept and believe in.

4. Your work

Many people like to overlook this one, it being much easier to say "Oh, I'm trapped in my job because I don't have a degree, experience, etc." Hogwash! That's simple a way of denying one's responsibility in having chosen the job in the first place.

It's your job and you chose it. If you stay (or go), that's a choice as well.

5. Who you associate with

There's a famous t-shirt that states: "It's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys."

Your friends can either lift you up or bring you down. You make the decision which type of friends you wish to have.

6. Your health

Much of our health is a factor of genetics, environment, and exposure. Much more of our health is simply a matter of the things we choose: diet, excercise, drugs, sleep, routine physicals, check-ups, etc.

7. The environment you live in

Your house, the condition of your home, the town you live in, the amenities available to you are all things you can control, although some to a lesser degree (i.e., you decide to tolerate them or move someplace else).

8. Your finances

Having or not having enough money is a factor of what you make versus what you spend.

9. Your time

You choose how to "spend" your time and how much of your time to give to various activities. You'll never get more time than the 24 hours your given each day.

10. Your legacy

All your actions, words, and knowledge that you share while you are living become the gift that you leave when you are gone.

Are You Prepared For Success? (Section II - Installment #17 "Attitude” – Male & Female versions)

What happens to the person is less important
than what happens within the person

(If this is your first time on this site, please begin with "Are You Prepared For Success?" [Introduction])

Attitude

As you go through life, remember this fact;
Your attitude will have the greatest impact.
Whatever you do, whoever you are,
It's what you bring to the party that will make you a star.

It's more important than education, skill or money,
Circumstance or looks, whether your sad or your funny;
Whether you fail or succeed, it will see you through.
The way you look at life is the way life looks at you.

What's remarkable is that each and every day
Regarding your attitude, only you have the say.
Say it loud, say it clear, with a meaningful voice,
Concerning your attitude, only you have the choice.

You can't change the inevitable, you can't change the past.
No matter how hard you try, most feelings don't last.
You start young and grow old, that you can't re-arrange;
It's your attitude, you have the power to change.

You can't control what others will do.
You can't control them and they can't control you.
The control that you have, the control that you wield
Is the control of your attitude, that's your only true shield.

Life, you will see, and hold it as true
Is only 10%, what happens to you.
You must believe and take it as fact,
A full 90% is how you choose to react.

(An Original Poem by Mel Kaye)

I strongly suggest that you write down your immediate reaction, after passionately reading this poem.
  • What has happened to you recently, where if you had looked at it differently you would have had a more favorable outcome? (Be specific!)

The Power Of Positive Thinking - The Undeniable Truth

As an ongoing aspect to my site I want to aggregate articles and stories all dedicated to the concept of PMA (Positive Mental Attitude,) whether I write them or someone else writes them (I will always link back to the author's site, which is part of my "12 Rules of Blogger Etiquette"). This is another in that series.

The Power Of Positive Thinking - The Undeniable Truth
By: Jaz Lai

The power of positive thinking is undeniable.

Every once in a while, everyone becomes distracted, unfocused, and disheartened, especially when it seems that nothing is going your way. Now, you could let your mood and the events around you dictate how you respond and make a seemingly bad day worse, or you could harness the power of positive thinking and demand that the negative emotions you are experiencing relinquish control over your life.

I will be the first to admit that it is much easier to tell someone that thinking positive will help in a less than ideal situation than it is to actually get that individual to believe and cooperate. There have been times in my life, and maybe some of your lives too, when I did not know where the next meal was coming from or if I would return home to a cold dark house, because I could not afford the utility bill.

There are far more people just barely "making it" than we would like to believe, and this is why we should practice positive thinking on a daily basis. It is about controlling your situation instead of allowing your situation to control you. When we implement a routine of daily positive thinking in our lives, we enable ourselves to mentally rise above our immediate situations. This is the first step towards actually unleashing the power of positive thought in our lives.

Once your subconscious mind becomes receptive to the practice of daily positive thinking (and believe me, there will be some resistance at first), you become more fully able to accept that you are worthy of better in life and begin to attract more positive outcomes than negative in your day to day living.

If it is difficult for you at first to allow the power of positive thinking in your life, start small. After all, you have to crawl before you can walk. Make a conscious effort to search out and look for the positive in every situation. Sometimes, depending on the situation, this may be darn near impossible, but try anyway.

Make a habit of stopping to reflect on all the positive things that happen in your life daily. It may even be a good idea to keep a journal; so that whenever you are feeling down, you can pick up your journal, read it, and reflect on the positive thoughts that you have written. Remember, it all starts with just one small step.

Are You Prepared For Success? (Section II - Installment #5 "Despair" - Male and Female versions)

(If this is your first time on this site, please begin with "Are You Prepared For Success?" [Introduction])

Despair

Stand in the face of total despair

And hold your head up high,

And look beyond as you declare

That through this you will fly.

Nothing will stop you short of death.

You'll feel sorry for yourself no more.

And you are far from your last breath

As you set sight on a distant shore.

This is only a temporary state.

You know this in your heart.

You will not let this be your fate.

From this place you will depart.

There is a better place for you.

This truth you must uncover.

Don't waste your time feeling blue.

The passion, you must re-discover.

Only you can do it now.

It's all within your control.

See what can be and take this vow,

To "Never lose sight of your goal."

(An original Poem by Mel Kaye)

I strongly suggest that you write down your immediate reaction, after passionately reading this poem.

  • Try this...In your mind's eye, back away from yourself and your current situation.
    • What do you see?
    • What would you like to see?
