(If this is your first time on this site, please begin with "Are You Prepared For Success?" [Introduction])
There is nothing to take it's place.
Not even with talent, can you make a case.
In this world, it's a common sight,
To have all the talent without the fight.
The brains of a genius, is that what it takes?
It would be nice, little chance for mistakes.
but look about, and you will see
"Un-rewarded genius", a proverb, be.
Education, is that the way?
It is important, better start today.
But be forewarned, you'll see all around,
Educated derelicts, a penny a pound.
The most important ingredient in winning, you'll see,
Is that of persistence, that's the key.
Don't ever give up, if you wish to rise.
Persistence, more than anything, will win you the prize.
(An original Poem by Mel Kaye)
I strongly suggest that you write down your immediate reaction, after passionately reading this poem.
- What goals could you have achieved if you had continued to persist?
- What goals did you achieve because you didn't give up?

Hello Mel,
My goal was to be a cinematographer, but my fears and constant negativity got in the way!!
Failed dream!!
Goal I achieved was starting to rid myself of negativity and share my thoughts with the world on webblogs!!
thanx

Steven,
persistence, positive thinking, and the never give up attitude can move mountains. Once you you have dumped your negativity (hopefully my site can help) maybe your original goal is still reachable?
One goal that I was able to achieve was getting a new computer! Even though I loved my older computer I was using a lot of hard drive space and did not want to erase anything - plus I admit I'd like to have a CD burner and just a more faster computer!
Well I achieved that and now both my computers are side by side - sort like in the movie "The Net"
Rose,
In my office I also have 2 computers, kitty corner to each other. One is my primary job PC and the other is my personal PC. I am constantly switching between the two.
Hey Mel,
Oh yeah, persistence is the key for everything!
The problem with people is that they set their mind to do something and then when it doesn't go the way they planned in the time they wish, they quit!
When starting any enterprise one should have the word persistence in his mind at all times. And the following question: how far am I willing to go to get this?
"What goals could you have achieved if you had continued to persist?" - I am still persisting, cause I never ever quit!
"What goals did you achieve because you didn't give up?" - I haven't finished yet (as I said in the previous answer), but so far I have achieved the respect of my co-workers, exactly because they know that not only I don't quit but I am willing to take the fall for the team.
Great installment!
Cheers
Max,
Excellent point ("how far am I willing to go to get this?") How many times must someone hit a brick wall before he/she looks for a way around, over or under it? One must also be planted firmly in reality to recognize that this may bay actually be a brick box, and an alteration in the plans may be needed.
Not giving up does not mean "foolhardiness." One should always learn and re-tool, if needed.
Mel,
"One must also be planted firmly in reality to recognize that this may bay actually be a brick box, and an alteration in the plans may be needed." - you are right! There is a difference between persistence and stubborness! But there is also another phenomenon: people often prefer to find themselves stubborn as an excuse to quit. They tell themselves that they have tried enough and do not persist...
"Not giving up does not mean "foolhardiness." One should always learn and re-tool, if needed." - I agree!
Max,
Another excellent point ("There is a difference between persistence and stubbornness! But there is also another phenomenon: people often prefer to find themselves stubborn as an excuse to quit. They tell themselves that they have tried enough and do not persist...") The idea is to get from point "A" to point "B" and what people forget is that there are many different ways of getting their. The shortest and most direct is usually the first choice, but not unnecessarily the best choice. All avenues need to maximized and then out-of-the-box thinking needs to be implemented.
As you stated, if the direct route is blocked many people then quit.
Mel,
"The idea is to get from point "A" to point "B" and what people forget is that there are many different ways of getting their." - exactly!
"The shortest and most direct is usually the first choice, but not unnecessarily the best choice. All avenues need to maximized and then out-of-the-box thinking needs to be implemented." - inspiring words!! *clap clap clap*! I bow to you!
"As you stated, if the direct route is blocked many people then quit." - which is utterly sad! Like a rap song says "God don't like no ugly, and God don't like no quitters!" lol
This won't actually have effect, I suppose like this.
