(If this is your first time on this site, you may want to begin with "Are You Prepared For Success?" [Introduction])
When things go wrong like they sometimes will;
When the road your trudging seems all uphill;
When the funds are low, and the debts are high;
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh;
When care is pressing you down a bit-
Rest if you must, but don't you quit.
Life is queer, with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about
When you might have won if you’d stuck it out;
Stick to your task, though the pace seems slow;
You may succeed with one more blow.
Success is failure turned inside out;
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt;
And you never can tell how close you are;
It may be near when it seems afar.
So, stick to the fight when you're hardest hit-
It's when things go wrong that you mustn't quit.
I strongly suggest that you write down your immediate reaction, after passionately reading this poem.
- Can you identify something worthwhile in your life (ie. school, job, relationship)...be specific...that you would like to run away from, quit; because it's too hard, or takes up too much time?
- What would happen if you quit?
- What is the reward of you don't quit?
- Now, compare.
