After much thoughtful review of your comments I have decided to make a change to my “CAVES” analysis (Cathartic, Altruistic, Validation, Earnings & Strength.) I have reworded the entire process. Here is what I have come up with:
- Cathartic – I have changed this to Therapeutic, which is really more descriptive in why we want to share experiences.
- Altruism – Stays the same. A way to disseminate valuable information (valuable in the mind of the blogger. Whether it is actually valuable has no real bearing for this discussion) that you want to be put out their; truly giving.
- Validation – Stays the same. To feel valued as a person, or feel that his or her ideas, opinions or creativity are worthwhile.
- Earnings – I have changed this to Money. (Again, whether blogging actually can make money has no bearing on this conversation.)
- Strength – I have changed this to Improvement. What I mean by this is a channel by which we can effect change.
- Communication – New addition. Some of us what to be able to communicate with family and friends based on your circumstance, communicate with like minded people.
- Enjoyment – New addition. Let’s face it, some of find the process to be fun.
- Enlightenment – New addition. Some of us are looking for growth, looking to learn and, yes, become enlightened. If you are providing enlightenment then Improvement is your focus.
So the new formula will be known as
Therapeutic
Improvement
Money
Enjoyment
Communication
Altruism
Validation
Enlightenment
Again, for the sake of this discussion let’s use the following scale:
0 = Absolute no
10 = Absolute yes
Using the TIMECAVE analysis I will rework my original quotient.
T – 3
I – 8
M – 3
Enj – 9
C – 2
A – 4
V – 6
Enl – 2
I believe that this analysis better address the varying needs of why a blogger blogs. I know that it better enables me to come to grips with why I blog. For me the rewording of Strength to Improvement better describes what I am doing. It allowed me to reduce my Altruism factor in order to make it more realistic.
I would love to get further feedback. I grow with every discussion. Maybe I should increase my Enlightenment factor?

You need to add a new category:
"The need to create long acronyms".
Bab,
I was actually thinking about that. Believe me, I got the basic categories pretty fast; all the time was spent in trying to figure out the appropriate acronym and still have it true to the concept and the categories. I actually thought about a category for this process. It's sad to admit, but for me it falls under E for Enjoyment.
ok Mell Give it a try again

I moved from my old address! I am happy to participate. It's a great topic!
Amel,
Thanks for the input. After reviewing the comments it seemed logical to remove "Cathartic" and replace it with "Therapeutic." I also figured that for many bloggers the T"T would get a high score........cheap therapy.
Bobby,
That error has been fixed. Thanks again for your input.
I love the depth to your post!!! WTG!!!

Nature Nut,
Thank you for visiting. I just like to get to the root of things. I hope that you come back and read more.
Hey Mel,
I shall be back to give my input on this improved version.
For now, I came to tell you that you have been tagged:

Cheers
Max,
I will respond, but it may take a few days.
Hi Mel
Michelle at Crows Feet has tagged me to join in the "Why Do I Blog" meme. I'll get to it on Saturday. I might bend the rules a little (sorry) because I belong to the astrology bloggers community, so I'll try to make it into a suitable subject for passing readers.
In the meantime I tried your TIME CAVE list and wanted to give myself 10 for everything except money, which is a definite 0. I must be a hopeless case!
It's an intriguing exercise and worthwhile.
Hi Twilight,
Thanks for your "TIME CAVE" input. It tells me that you are a very passionate person. As far as contributing to the meme.... whenever you are ready will be fine.
Mel - in reply to your comment on my blog re the tags required (I'm repeating it here in case you didn't see it)- at the moment I don't think any of the bloggers I regularly read are the type to get into a meme, so I'll have to remain "unofficial" for now. If I stumble upon someone in the near future who I think will join in, I'll certainly tag them. So my tags will have to be marked "pending". :-)
My blog is carried on "Astrology News" (widget) so I hope the meme will be read by several there, and if they feel inclined they'll take up the meme.
Twilight,
I have absolutely no problem with the way that you are handling the list. I do suggest that after your original post works it's way into your archives, that you continuously update it from my master list. For what it's worth, I now pronounce you OFFICIAL. LOL
My post is up, since "Somerset" Bob tagged me ;)
