Why read Monday Morning Power?

You will find a consistency and a focus in all of my content that can change your attitude which can fuel a positive change in your life, if you want it to. If you are happy with your attitude and your life and see no reason for changing, then you either already have a PMA (Positive Mental Attitude), or you are a victim and want to hold onto your misery. These postings will then serve to fortify the person with PMA, or, hopefully, convince the "victim" that there is a better way. This site will contain essays, poems, stories, humor and links, all with the same goal: The pursuit, capture, care and feeding of a Positive Mental Attitude. I have had readers tell me that they have spent hours on my site and feel great about themselves both during and after. I log onto my own site frequently to help fuel my attitude; I hope you will as well.

To My Fellow Bloggers.....

Please feel free to link my blog to yours. A dose of "Monday Morning Power" would bolster any blog, except for those that profess doom, destruction and the end of the world. If you want to use any of my content in your blog, please ask first via email or by comment. I will need to review your blog for appropriate content and then give you written permission as well as being sure that you link back.

Monday Morning Power

A dose of "Monday Morning Power" and a cup of coffee and you're ready for whatever awaits you. At a minimum you should read this blog on Monday Mornings. However, there will be new posts daily. What is a Meme?

I can't recall the number of times that I have been asked, "What is a meme?" Actually, unitl I got into blogging, I never heard the word before. So, these brief definitions are for the newer bloggers.

Following are a number of definitions of a meme:

  • An idea that, like a gene, can replicate and evolve.
  • A unit of cultural information that represents a basic idea that can be transferred from one individual to another, and subjected to mutation, crossover and adaptation.
  • A cultural unit (an idea or value or pattern of behavior) that is passed from one generation to another by non-genetic means (as by imitation); "memes are the cultural counterpart of genes".
  • An idea, project, statement or even a question that is posted by one blog and responded to by other blogs.
  • Viral encapsulated idea, with built-in feedback loop.
Obviously, the last 2 definitions are more focused on the blogger's definition.

“Tag Your It” - Rules of Tag Protocol

Following are a number of rules that I have developed to help the newer bloggers better understand what it means to "tag" someone. Tagging is usually involved in the spreading of a "meme."

Rules:

  • List the Tagee's name and/or blog name, with link, after you post your meme.
  • Try and choose meme-friendly sites to participate.
  • Go to their site and invite them to participate in the least obtrusive way possible.
  • If you leave a comment after a specific post, have the courtesy to leave an appropriate post specific comment. Then invite them to participate in the meme.
  • Invite, never challenge; ask, never demand!
  • If you truly believe in the benefit of this particular meme, go ahead and explain the benefits, but always leave the tagee a dignified way to say “no.”
Some memes can be very beneficial to the tager, to the tagee, to both, or to neither. Try not to get involved in memes that have little or no benefit for the site that your are tagging. Like network marketing, some memes only benefit the first ones in. There needs to be some benefit for the participants that get in late.

Memes can be fun and/or revealing. Join in these if it feels good. Some can be an outright waste of time.

Memes are not for everyone. Some people will never participate no matter how beneficial the meme is. If someone says “no” to a meme invite, respect that decision.

When deciding whether or not to get involved in a meme, the overriding concern should be whether your readers will gain some benefit by reading it. Some of the obvious benefits would be that your readers:
  • Will gain some insight into who you are (that could be good or bad).
  • Gain some intrinsic value from the subject matter.
  • Would like to get involved themselves.
  • Would find humor in it.
  • Would learn something.

11 People on a Rope

Eleven people were hanging on a rope under a helicopter, ten men and one woman. The rope was not strong enough to carry them all, so they decided that one had to leave, because otherwise they were all going to fall. They weren't able to name that person, until a woman gave a very touching speech, She said that she would voluntarily let go of the rope because, as a woman, she was used to giving up everything for her husband and kids or for men in general, and was used to always making sacrifices with little in return. As soon as she finished her speech, all the men started clapping.

Are You Prepared For Success? (Section II - Installment #32 "The Winner’s Creed” – Male & Female versions)

(If this is your first time on this site, you may want to begin with "Are You Prepared For Success?" [Introduction])

The Winner's Creed

The "Winner's Creed" is a powerful tool.
To start your engine, it is the fuel.
Say it with passion, say it with might.
Say it each day, morning, noon and night.

The person that you want to be
Is already inside, you'll see.
All good things will come your way.
Better start preparing, right now, today.

The qualities that you will need
You will develop, with blinding speed.
You'll make them yours, and you will see
That you know the answer; you have the key.

Honest and good, dedicated and true,
You will give to your brother before taking for you.
You will find good in everyone you meet.
And you will never, ever, accept defeat.

Your resolve is definite, your desire is strong.
With goodness of purpose, you cannot go wrong.
You're considerate, consistent, reliable and fair,
Persistent and competent and always aware.

You're decisive, assertive, resourceful and bold;
You are an individual, in nobody's mold.
Your enthusiasm's infectious, your energy's high.
You will do more than to simply try.

You will be positive of thought and positive of deed.
You will know when to follow and know when to lead.
You will be open-minded and know that you will
Change with the times, for the world won't stand still.

You are a student, its knowledge you seek.
You will actively listen and cautiously speak.
You are a teacher of all that you know;
Imparting the wisdom, so that all will grow.

You are focused, committed, confident and loyal,
And you'll treat everyone as an equal, be they common or royal.
Your integrity and character will always shine through;
With your focus on the many and not on the few.

You will look to the future and not dwell on the past.
You will expect to be first and never again last.
You look forward with courage, with passion and hope,
And know that you'll always be able to cope.

You will look at life with humor and awe,
With respect for others and respect for the law.
You will always be grateful for what you possess.
You are humble yet proud, never out to impress.

You will take responsibility for all that you do;
For all that is old and for all that is new.
You will never again cower and hide.
You will hold your head up with confidence and pride.

You are a winner, and you will see;
You are a person of high quality.
You will always strive to do the best you can do.
You will believe in the future and you will believe in you.

(An Original Poem by Mel Kaye)

I strongly suggest that you write down your immediate reaction, after passionately reading this poem.

  • What can make you a winner?
  • List the characteristics that you would like to have so that you will be a winner.

Monday Morning Power

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I am starting a new feature today. It has been too long in coming. By shear coincidence I am calling it “Monday Morning Power.” I wonder how I came up with that name?

Well it’s Monday morning again and far too many of us dread, what I believe is an absolute gift. To me, and hopefully to you, Monday morning is the beginning of:

  • A new adventure
  • New goals to achieve
  • An awakening
  • A fresh start

For as long as I can remember I have always looked forward to Monday morning and the challenges that it brings. It’s always been an exciting time of the week. What am I going to accomplish this week? What new friends will I make? What will I discover? What will I uncover? What heights will I rise to? The possibilities are infinite!!

We should all embrace Monday morning as if it is a cherished friend.

Now go out and let the world know that you matter and no one will, or can, hold you back. Stake your claim and make it happen!!!!!

And guess what? If you fall, you have the ability to get up and do it again. The only failure is to quit. Don’t ever, ever, ever quit!!!!!

Just remember, “You have the Power!”

5 Strengths / 4 People

I was tagged by MAX for this wonderful meme.

Here’s how it’s done:

“So, here’s the challenge: make a list of five strengths that you possess as a writer/artist. It’s not really bragging, it’s an honest assessment (forced upon you by this darn meme). Please resist the urge to enumerate your weaknesses, or even mention them in contrast to each strong point you list. Tag four other writers or artists whom you’d like to see share their strengths”

  1. Encouragement to live life to the fullest: My reason for blogging in the first place is to encourage people to take control of their lives by always possessing a Positive Mental Attitude. I believe that this is doable without having to spend money on shrinks, seminars or books.
  2. Ability to Help People: I have created a "Process" that can be applied to the most negative person and help him/her turn that negative energy into positive energy. I had to share this with the world and blogging give me that outlet.
  3. Creative Outlet: I find that blogging unleashes my most creative energy. I have come up with ideas, concepts and, yes, even memes that have proved very successful. This in turn fuels even more creativity. I have always been positive, but this helps me take it to a new level.
  4. Quest for Clarity: I find that writing my thoughts and opinions down in a blog helps me gain clarity, especially when I am challenged. I have changed my views in a couple of instances because of logical and clear challenges. I find a level of intelligence amongst bloggers that is much higher than in the normal populace.
  5. Ability to make Friends: What I did not expect, and what has been the most pleasant of surprises is that many of the people that I have met, the authors behind the blogs, have turned out to be real friends. I feel like I can trust and, yes, love some of my new friends. This has been more of a discovered ability since I began blogging.

And now I would like to read about the strengths of the following artists/writers:

Sandee from Comedy Plus: a truly funny site. This is where you go to laugh and to think.

Ann from A Nice Place in The Sun : a wonderful place to go if want to feel happy. She specializes in children

Mahendra from An Unquiet Mind: Intelligent and very thoughtful writing about about the world with a definite focus on India.

Lynda from Lynda's Loft: In her own words, Lynda "is in love with love."

Are You Prepared For Success? (Section II - Installment #31f "What is a Winner?” – Female version)

(If this is your first time on this site, I recommend that you begin with "Are You Prepared For Success?" [Introduction])

If you are a male reader. please go to #31m

What Is A Winner?

Winning is doing the best you can do
With whatever God has given to you.
Winning will happen if you have a plan;
A plan that consists of the phrase, "I can!"
Winning is nothing more, at all;
Nothing more than rising each time you fall.

A winner will fight when she's hardest hit.
It's when things go wrong that she mustn't quit.
A winner prepares; a winner takes aim;
A winner will write the rules of the game.
A winner takes time for family and friends.
A winner has optimistic views that never ends.

A winner says it's possible; a loser says it's not.
A winner sees beneath the surface; a loser only sees the rot.
A winner must understand before she can be understood;
A loser doesn't care, as long as she looks good.
A winner must have a moral sense, a sense of who she is;
A loser has no moral sense; she has no need of this.

A winner decides; a loser can't chose;
A winner finds a way; a loser finds an excuse.
A winner anticipates; a winner acts;
A loser procrastinates; a loser re-acts.
A winner begins with an end in mind.
A loser goes forth as if she's blind.

A winner has values beyond which she won't go.
A loser has values as malleable as dough.
A winner sees to it that everyone wins.
A loser causes failure, as she looks on and grins.
A winner acts like a winner and acts like she knew
That if she looked in the mirror, she'd see the reflection of you.

I strongly suggest that you write down your immediate reaction, after passionately reading this poem.

Two Little Boys...

Two young boys walked into a pharmacy one day, picked out a box of tampons and proceeded to the checkout counter.

The man at the counter asked the older boy, "Son, how old are you?"

"Eight," the boy replied.

The man continued, "Do you know what these are used for?"

The boy replied, "Not exactly, but they aren't for me. They're for him. He's my brother. He's four. We saw on TV that if you use these you
would be able to swim and ride a bike. Right now, he can't do either one."

Helpful Hints

Think of this as "Public Service Sunday"

I was looking though some old archived information that I had and I came across these hints. Some of these are quite informative.
Ladies, these are mostly for you, however, there are a few that could have some interest for men, especially the reheating of pizza.

Subject: Great Tips for everyone! Very helpful GREAT TIPS: PLEASE BE SURE YOU READ THE LAST ONE ABOUT THE CLOTHES DRYER!!!!!! Here we
thought we knew it all!

  1. Reheat Pizza - Heat up leftover pizza in a nonstick skillet on top of the stove, set heat to med-low and heat till warm. This keeps the crust crispy. No soggy micro pizza. I saw this on the cooking channel and it really works.
  2. Easy Deviled Eggs - Put cooked egg yolks in a zip lock bag. Seal, mash till they are all broken up. Add remainder of ingredients, reseal, keep mashing it up mixing thoroughly, cut the tip of the baggy, squeeze mixture into egg. Just throw bag away when done easy clean up.
  3. Expanding Frosting - When you buy a container of cake frosting from the store, whip it with your mixer for a few minutes. You can double it in size. You get to frost more cake/cupcakes with the same amount. You also eat less sugar and calories per serving.
  4. Reheating refrigerated bread to warm biscuits, pancakes, or muffins that were refrigerated, place them in a microwave with a cup of water. The increased moisture will keep the food moist and help it reheat faster.
  5. Newspaper keeps weeds away. - Start putting wet newspapers in your plants. Work the nutrients in your soil. Wet newspapers, then put layers around the plants overlapping as you go cover with mulch and forget about weeds. Weeds will get through some gardening plastic they will not get through wet newspapers.
  6. Broken Glass - Use a wet cotton ball or Q-tip to pick up the small shards of glass you can't see easily.
  7. No More Mosquitoes - Place a dryer sheet in your pocket. It will keep the mosquitoes away.
  8. Squirrel Away! - To keep squirrels from eating your plants sprinkle your plants with cayenne pepper. The cayenne pepper doesn't hurt the plant and the squirrels won't come near it.
  9. Flexible vacuum hose to get something out of a heat register or under the fridge add an empty paper towel roll or empty gift wrap roll to your vacuum. It can be bent or flattened to get in narrow openings.
  10. Reducing Static Cling - Pin a small safety pin to the seam of your slip and you will not have a clingy skirt or dress. Same thing works with slacks that cling when wearing panty hose. Place pin in seam of slacks and -- ta da! -- static is gone.
  11. Measuring Cups - Before you pour sticky substances into a measuring cup, fill with hot water. Dump out the hot water, but don't dry cup. Next, add your ingredient, such as peanut butter, and watch how easily it comes right out.
  12. Foggy Windshield? - Hate foggy windshields? Buy a chalkboard eraser and keep it in the glove box of your car. When the windows fog, rub with the eraser! Works better than a cloth!
  13. Reopening envelope. - If you seal an envelope and then realize you forgot to include something inside, just place your sealed envelope in the freezer for an hour or two. Viola! It unseals easily
  14. Conditioner - Use your hair conditioner to shave your legs. It's a lot cheaper than shaving cream and leaves your legs really smooth. It's also a great way to use up the conditioner you bought but didn't like when you tried it in your hair...
  15. Goodbye Fruit Flies - To get rid of pesky fruit flies, take a small glass fill it 1/2" with Apple Cider Vinegar and 2 drops of dish washing liquid, mix well. You will find those flies drawn to the cup and gone forever!
  16. Get Rid of Ants - Put small piles of cornmeal where you see ants. They eat it, take it "home" can't digest it so it kills them. It may take a week or so, especially if it rains, but it works & you don't have the worry about pets or small children being harmed!
  17. INFO ABOUT CLOTHES DRYERS - The heating unit went out on my dryer! The gentleman that fixes things around the house for us told us that he wanted to show us something and he went over to the dryer and pulled out the lint filter. It was clean. (I always clean the lint from the filter after every load clothes.) He told us that he wanted to show us something; he took the filter over to the sink, ran hot water over it. The lint filter is made of a mesh material - I'm sure you know what your dryer's lint filter looks like. WELL...the hot water just sat on top of the mesh! It didn't go through it at all! He told us that dryer sheets cause a film over that mesh that's what burns out the heating unit. You can't SEE the film, but it's there. It's what is in the dryer sheets to make your clothes soft and static free - that nice fragrance too, you know how they can feel waxy when you take them out of the box, well this stuff builds up on your clothes and on your lint screen This is also what causes dryer units to catch fire & potentially burn your house down with it! He said the best way to keep your dryer working for a very long time (& to keep your electric bill lower) is to take that filter out & wash it with hot soapy water & an old toothbrush (or other brush) at least every six months. He said that makes the life of the dryer at least twice as long! How about that!?! Learn something new every day! I certainly didn't know dryer sheets would do that. So, I thought I'd share! Note: I went to my dryer & tested my screen by running water on it. The water ran through a little bit but mostly collected all the water in the mesh screen. I washed it with warm soapy water & a nylon brush & I had it done in 30 seconds. Then when I rinsed it the water ran right thru the screen! There wasn't any puddling at all! That repairman knew what he was talking about! PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO OTHER PEOPLE IN YOUR ADDRESS BOOK. NOT ONLY COULD IT SAVE SOMEONE'S HOME, BUT IT COULD SAVE SOMEONE'S LIFE.

"Master List" Display Suggestion

For Existing List Participants

I am looking for a never ending run on this directory. The best way to display the directory on your site is to archive the list and have a button (with link) or just a link on your sidebar that links to YOUR copy of the List. You may want to take a look at my site, upper right; I have a button that links to my Master list. You can take this code and install the button on your site, but it will link to my Master List. If you want to direct it to your own archived list follow the directions below:

  1. Copy the code below
  2. Paste it into your html editor on your sidebar
  3. Copy the url of your copy of the list and paste it between the quotes where it says YOUR URL HERE.

    Now be sure to make regular visits back and copy/paste the entire list to your site. That is what will keep this list growing and bring benefit to everyone who participates. Plus you will always have a current directory on your site for reader reference and to visit new sites yourself.

    Back to "Master List"

    Again, thank you everyone for participating.

After much thoughtful review of your comments I have decided to make a change to my “CAVES” analysis (Cathartic, Altruistic, Validation, Earnings & Strength.) I have reworded the entire process. Here is what I have come up with:

  • Cathartic – I have changed this to Therapeutic, which is really more descriptive in why we want to share experiences.
  • Altruism – Stays the same. A way to disseminate valuable information (valuable in the mind of the blogger. Whether it is actually valuable has no real bearing for this discussion) that you want to be put out their; truly giving.
  • Validation – Stays the same. To feel valued as a person, or feel that his or her ideas, opinions or creativity are worthwhile.
  • Earnings – I have changed this to Money. (Again, whether blogging actually can make money has no bearing on this conversation.)
  • Strength – I have changed this to Improvement. What I mean by this is a channel by which we can effect change.
  • Communication – New addition. Some of us what to be able to communicate with family and friends based on your circumstance, communicate with like minded people.
  • Enjoyment – New addition. Let’s face it, some of find the process to be fun.
  • Enlightenment – New addition. Some of us are looking for growth, looking to learn and, yes, become enlightened. If you are providing enlightenment then Improvement is your focus.

So the new formula will be known as TIME CAVE

Therapeutic
I
mprovement
M
oney
E
njoyment
C
ommunication
A
ltruism
V
alidation
E
nlightenment

Again, for the sake of this discussion let’s use the following scale:
0 = Absolute no
10 = Absolute yes

Using the TIMECAVE analysis I will rework my original quotient.

T – 3
I – 8
M – 3
Enj – 9
C – 2
A – 4
V – 6
Enl – 2

I believe that this analysis better address the varying needs of why a blogger blogs. I know that it better enables me to come to grips with why I blog. For me the rewording of Strength to Improvement better describes what I am doing. It allowed me to reduce my Altruism factor in order to make it more realistic.

I would love to get further feedback. I grow with every discussion. Maybe I should increase my Enlightenment factor?
